Situated in the centre of the island of Hvar, Jelsa is a small town with people who are friendly and kind to guests and travellers. It is surrounded with two highest peaks of the island: St. Nicholas on the west and Hum on the east. The most fertile valley on the Adriatic islands spreads among Vrboska, Jelsa and Stari Grad.
The large field abounds with Mediterranean cultures - luxuriant vineyards, orchards, olives and vegetables. The nearby hills are covered with Mediterranean plants - lavender, rosemary, sage, almond, carob, pine and cypress trees- creating a particular atmosphere and giving a special touch to the whole area that can rarely be found elsewhere.
Every village in the Jelsa county is well protected from winds. Occasionally the wind called Bura blows, leaving behind clean and clear air, crystal blue sky, magnificent sights of the ebullient sea and the rumble of waves that smash against the rocks.
In the villages along the coast you can walk by the sea (lungo mare) and by the luxuriant vegetation and you should not miss the forest hills as well. Colourful villages in the surroundings have mostly kept their primeval atmosphere, so that each guest can find the necessary peace and quiet, both in summer and winter time.
The beautiful nature, mild climate, numerous historical monuments testifying to the interesting past of these parts and friendly people are inviting you to meet them. Once you visit Jelsa, it will remain in your heart forever.
